"Common Values"

Australia and China today signed an agreement whereby Australia will supply uranium to China. See the report of the agreement as reported by the SMH here.

What is more than a little startling is that PM John Howard on the ABC Program PM this evening said that underlying the agreement with China was that Oz and China had "shared values".

Eh? "Shared values" with China, a Communist country devoid of personal freedoms in many material respects, censorship, detention without due process, etc. etc.?

It will be interesting whether the media, or indeed anyone, challenges Howard on his quite amazing statement - and hopefully asks the critical question, amongst many, of Howard to spell out and detail the "shared values" he is speaking of.

One man refused to vacate the seat he paid for and, thus, had a reasonable expectation of sitting in. Security office…
