The UN has passed its resolution in relation to the current Middle East conflict - at last! Whatever the outcome - doubtful! - Israel has already indicated where it stands. The US too will be seen as showing its colors in the light of this:
"Israel has asked the Bush administration to speed delivery of short-range antipersonnel rockets armed with cluster munitions, which it could use to strike Hezbollah missile sites in Lebanon, according to two American officials.
The request for M-26 artillery rockets, which are fired in barrages and carry hundreds of grenade-like bomblets that scatter and explode over a broad area, is likely to be approved shortly, along with other arms, a senior official said Thursday."
So reports the IHT. Read the full piece here.
The bona fides of the US will be clearly on show depending on whether it accedes to Israel's request. All too sadly the Americans' track-record is such that Washington will most likely grant the Israeli request. It would be shameful if it did - and the message to the Arab and Middle East world crystal clear. America is not and cannot be any sort of "honest broker" in any peace-process.
