A little while back, playwright David Williamson wrote, despairingly, of what he saw as the dumbing-down of Australian values and interests other than acquiring material possessions.
In today's The Australian he "has a go" [see the Opinion piece here] at what he describes as McMansion Man [a myth according to Williamson] - the Aussie who has no time for, nor interest, in anything remotely cultural.
More pointedly Williamson rightly severely criticises people like Janet Albrechtson [sadly, one of the ABC Commissioners] for her attack on artists and public intellectuals.
