The War on Terror - and Strange Bedfellows

George Bush speaks of spreading democracy [presumably US style!] around the world.

For his part Pakistani President General Musharraf seized power in a coup. He was not elected.

Yet here we have the leaders in Pakistan speaking of joining together to defeat terrorism and George Bush referring warmly of Gen. Musharraf. Now the General is in the "good books" of the US whereas he wasn't before 9/11.

How bizarre! As for the "war on terrorism" read the BBC report here of George Bushs' 24 hour "visit" to Pakistan.....and reflect on the fact that as Air Forec One came in to land in Islamabad that it lights were turned off and all windows shuttered!

Not for the first time does MPS wonder what sort of country it is when Israel so flagrently allows what can only be described as barbaric and inhuman behaviour to be undertaken by, amongst others, its IDF. No one has seemingly challenged Israel's actions. However, perhaps it's gone a bridge too far - as The Independent reports. The Foreign Office revealed last night that it would be challenging the Israelis over their treatment of Palestinian children after a report by a delegation of senior British lawyers revealed unconscionable practices, such as hooding and the use of leg irons. In the first investigation of its kind, a team of nine senior legal figures examined how Palestinians as young as 12 were treated when arrested.
