On 5 April, 2003 Coalition forces pushed into downtown Baghdad as part of the aptly [!] named "Shock & Awe" attack on Iraq.
Needless to say there much mayhem, destruction and deaths and injuries.
Now, a group Iraqi women [mostly now widows as a result of the War] want to visit the USA to relate, personally to Americans, the effect on them of the Iraqi War.
No way! - says the USA. It won't let them visit the USA on the pretext that the visitors may not return to Iraq.
Read the AlterNet article on how the USA [and Britain and Australia too?] view bringing democracy to Iraq!!!! - well, to the extent of attacking Iraq but not wanting to "expose" Americans to the realities of what has been wrought in and to a country far from downtown NY, Washington, LA, middle America, etc.
