Treasurer Costello's call the other day for people to either adopt Australia's way or leave for elsewhere - especially in the context of locals following Sharia law - really was no more than code for going back to the bad old days of the White Australia Policy.
Marilyn Lake, Professor of History at La Trobe University, in an op-ed piece in The Age [here] dissects what Costello said and concludes, sadly, that what Costello is calling for is no more than an update of the White Australia Policy - a blot on Australia if there ever was one!
Feel ashamed that Costello, supported by his "leader" Howard, as an Australian, in 2006 in a country with such a diverse background of people, even dares to suggest what he has under the guise of "protecting" so-called Oz values.
