It is with more than a note of glee and irony to see the Murdoch media empire now so much in the gun because of its conduct. The disher is having it dished out to it and in the processes being trashed!
The revelations of its activities, and now even the closure of the News of the World (although some question the motive underlying it) - in itself astounding given the age of the newspaper - has focused on how Murdoch and his minions have been operating for years, and not only in Britain.
New Matilda has a good piece "Murdoch's Business is a Pox on Democray" here, on the Murdoch empire.
In all of the scandal surrounding the Murdoch enterprise, one person, aside from the Murdochs themselves, stands out, Rebekah Wade. No shrinking wall-flower this woman! In fact, not a likeable person on any account - as this pen-portrait in The New York Times would have it.
"Now 43 and known by her new married name, Rebekah Brooks, she has used a winning combination of charm, effrontery, audacity and tenacity to thrive in the brutal, male-dominated world of the British tabloids. She has risen to become chief executive of News International, Rupert Murdoch’s British newspaper subsidiary."
