General Augusto Pinochet, the man who Margaret Thatcher, disgracefully, admired and spoke of in glowing terms, is dead. No loss there! The Independent has an appraisal and background to this barbaric and totally unprincipled person - who, remember, the US supported when he toppled the then duly elected Allende government in Chile.
"As the mustachioed Pinochet crushed dissent during his 1973-90 rule, he left little doubt about who was in charge. "Not a leaf moves in this country if I'm not moving it," he once said."
