America's misplaced policies in the Middle East

"America is failing in the Middle East because our leaders of both parties will not look at the region through Arab eyes. What Bush saw as a glorious liberation of Iraq, Arabs saw as an invasion. Where Bush sees in Israel a model of democracy, Arabs see a pampered agent of U.S. imperialism, persecuting and dispossessing the Palestinian people."

This interesting piece, written by a conservative, and "published" on Information Clearing House, takes a sober and realistic view of the failed policies of the US in the Middle East. The sooner the better that America comes to understand that its blind and one-eyed support for Israel will do it no good, and no less importantlty, leads to the entire region being de-stabilised. What, for instance, a more balanced approach to a range of issues in the Middle East might mean for Israel - think untold billions in fianncial support - is another matter.

Not for the first time does MPS wonder what sort of country it is when Israel so flagrently allows what can only be described as barbaric and inhuman behaviour to be undertaken by, amongst others, its IDF. No one has seemingly challenged Israel's actions. However, perhaps it's gone a bridge too far - as The Independent reports. The Foreign Office revealed last night that it would be challenging the Israelis over their treatment of Palestinian children after a report by a delegation of senior British lawyers revealed unconscionable practices, such as hooding and the use of leg irons.
