"Educational opportunities for women in Afghanistan are few - only 12 per cent of women over 15 are literate and only 6 per cent of over 25s have had any formal education.
Female education continues to be hampered by the continuing conflict, deep levels of poverty, segregation, discrimination, early marriage and family pressures to remain at home or to work to provide an income. CARE International is working to overcome this issue by helping girls in remote areas access quality education through community-managed schools."
A new photography exhibition, promoting women’s rights in Afghanistan, opens next week at the House of Commons.
