War Films Dominate Winners at Tribeca Film Festival

"A documentary about the Iraq war and a film about the lasting impact on soldiers' lives of a conflict more than 20 years ago won the top awards at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York on Saturday.

War and global politics were the theme of many of the award-winning films at the festival which returned this year to its somber roots in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks."

Perhaps it says something of the American psyche but the winners of various film categories at the Tribeca Film Festival are"interesting" - and just perhaps a reflection of at least what occupies the minds of some thinking Americans. Many of the films sound challenging, certainly to Americans in the climate prevailing in the US, and hardly the fare of the local film-multiplex. Not for the first time does MPS wonder what sort of country it is when Israel so flagrently allows what can only be described as barbaric and inhuman behaviour to be undertaken by, amongst others, its IDF.
