The SMH reports today:
"David Hicks would receive no credit for the time he has spent in detention should he be convicted and jailed by a revamped US military commission.
In the proposal for new commissions, Hicks, who has been held without trial for almost five years at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, would have to serve the full sentence with no deduction for time served".
The Bush Administration has proposed that Congress approve a new commission system which, defence lawyers say, is as flawed as the first process".
Of course this all pre-supposes Hicks is found guilty of something! How unjust and against all principles of reasonableness and decency in the administration of justice. It also highlights that this travesty of justice must come to an end without delay. Read the full SMH piece here.
