The Australian Financial Review's correspondent in China is leaving after having reported from there since 2004.

She records some rather startling facts - which clearly show the astounding growth and development of China in the last 7 years since she first arrived.

the economy has doubled

in 2004 GMP was 15.9 trillion yuan. In 2010, 39.8 trillion yuan

in US dollar terms China's GDP has actually tripled over the last 7 years from US$1.93 trillion to just over US$6 trillion today

in 2004 China was the 7th largest economy in the world, having slipped past Italy to qualify for 6th position

today China is the second-largest economy in the world having just beaten Japan to #2 spot.

Not for the first time does MPS wonder what sort of country it is when Israel so flagrently allows what can only be described as barbaric and inhuman behaviour to be undertaken by, amongst others, its IDF. No one has seemingly challenged Israel's actions. However, perhaps it's gone a bridge too far - as The Independent reports. The Foreign Office revealed last night that it would be challenging the Israelis over their treatment of Palestinian children after a report by a delegation of senior British lawyers revealed unconscionable practices, such as hooding and the use of leg irons.
