If this piece in The Guardian / The Observer is correct, then Israel, contrary to its constantly stated aim that it is seeking peace with its neighbours, has not only acted stupidly, but more importantly, given the lie to seeking a lasting peace with the Palestinians - and missed an opportunity it ought not have:
