God-forbid anyone outside Israel - think Desmond Tutu or Jimmy Carter as two examples - accuse Israel of being an apartheid State. Keen observers of the country have for years labelled Israel's policies as being akin to those of one-time apartheid South Africa.
So, here we have an op-ed piece "South Africa is already here" in Haaretz today saying exactly that.....that Israel is virtually an apartheid State:
"Israel's apartheid movement is coming out of the woodwork and is taking on a formal, legal shape. It is moving from voluntary apartheid, which hides its ugliness through justifications of "cultural differences" and "historic neglect" which only requires a little funding and a couple of more sewage pipes to make everything right - to a purposeful, open, obligatory apartheid, which no longer requires any justification."
Meanwhile, those ardent followers of Israel seek to justify its actions and even extol what a democracy it is - the only one, they claim, in the Middle East.
