CommonDreams looks back in this Happy Banned Books Week:
"Happy Banned Books Week, wherein we honor the fear-induced idiocy of banning books - which might actually offend, inform or otherwise influence someone somewhere - by reading them. Banned in the past have been those cauldrons of sexual and religious evil like "The Grapes of Wrath," "To Kill A Mockingbird," "Catcher In The Rye," "Beloved," and, the most banned of all time, "And Tango Makes Three," a kids' book about real gay penguins at Central Park Zoo. Read something from the full list here. Or see a map of what's been banned where here."
