1 September marks the 70th anniversary of the beginning of World War 2.
It is sobering to reflect on the following:

- some 50 million people worldwide were killed during WW2
- the Holocaust resulted in 6 million Jews [one-third of the Jews in the world] being exterminated
- one-half of Poland's people were killed
- Europe was "divided" as a result of the Russians annexing countries like Hungary, Poland, Bulgaria and the Eastern portion of Germany [remember the Berlin Wall?].
