How on earth Libya, of all countries, ever gained a place on the UN Human Rights Council is hard to fathom.
It's taken Libya's latest infractions of human rights - including bombing its own people - that has, thankfully, led to the renegade nation, with it's erratic dictator Gaddafi, to be thrown off the Council. Not before time!
"The United Nations General Assembly has unanimously suspended Libya's membership in the UN Human Rights Council because of Moamar Gaddafi's violent crackdown on protesters.
The resolution was adopted by consensus in the 192-nation General Assembly on the basis of a recommendation from the 47-member Geneva-based council, the principal UN rights forum."
That body accused Libyan authorities last Friday of "gross and systematic violations of human rights".
